Niger launches national sessions to shape roadmap for transitional phase

NIAMEY, Niger – The “National Sessions for the Reestablishment of the State” officially began in Niamey, aiming to set the agenda for the country’s transitional phase.
The sessions were inaugurated by the Chairman of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, Abdourahamane Tchiani, and will run until Wednesday at the International Conference Center in Niamey.
In his opening speech, Tchiani explained that the delay in convening the session, which was announced immediately after assuming power, was due to the external challenges and pressures Niger has faced since its decision to restore full sovereignty.
Tchiani called for national unity and solidarity, urging participants to act with a sense of national responsibility, free from partisan or regional divisions. Accordingly, he emphasised that these sessions are not mere formalities, but an opportunity for meaningful dialogue.
The event, which seeks to define the roadmap for Niger’s transitional phase, includes 716 delegates from various national sectors, tasked with discussing the recommendations from regional sessions and drafting a proposed charter for the transition.
