Algerian President emphasizes importance of culture and audiovisual activity

ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasised on Sunday the importance of culture and the audiovisual activity, highlighting a dedication to the ambitions of creators and intellectuals in the field of filmmaking.

In his speech at the opening of the National Cinema Sessions, President Tebboune underscored the “great importance” attached to cinematographic production, aiming to revive its brilliance and draw inspiration from the legacy of the pioneering filmmakers of the 1970s.

“I extend my condolences to the pioneers of the seventh art who have passed away, and I salute those who continue to contribute to the state’s efforts to adapt the cinematographic industry,” the President said.

The Algerian president encouraged shaping the future of Algerian cinema by presenting ideas and crafting innovative concepts that will make this evolving industry a cultural symbol “reflecting the Algerian identity and national character.”

“It is time to make culture the cornerstone of the progress and new development taking place in Algeria,” the President added.

In this regard, President Tebboune highlighted the availability of material and financial resources “to create a cinema worthy of the country of martyrs and the stature of Algeria.”
