Chad: Partial Withdrawal of French Fighter Jets

The General Staff of the Chadian Armed Forces announced on Tuesday a partial withdrawal of French fighter jets stationed in N’Djamena, the country’s capital, following the termination of security and defense agreements established during the colonial era.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Chadian army, Chanane Issakha Acheikh, it was noted that “the withdrawal commenced on Tuesday with the departure of several fighter jets after the decision to terminate cooperation agreements with France.”

“The public will be informed at every stage of this withdrawal, which will culminate in the final departure of French forces,” the statement added.

On November 28, the Chadian government had declared its decision to end the colonial-era security and defense agreements.

It is important to highlight that several protests occurred on Thursday and Friday in N’Djamena, where thousands voiced their support for the severance of military agreements with France, as announced by the Chadian authorities last week.
