Russia Open to Fair Dialogue with US on Future Relations, Says Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Thursday that Russia remains open to dialogue with the United States, provided any talks occur on an equitable basis. Speaking at a news conference in Astana, Kazakhstan, Lavrov underscored Moscow’s willingness to engage constructively with Washington, especially under the incoming U.S. administration led by President-elect Donald Trump, who recently won the November 5 election with 294 Electoral College votes.

Lavrov noted that Russia did not initiate the breakdown in relations, saying, “If there are proposals…to sit down and talk about where we are and how to move forward, we will be able and willing to do it.” He added that Russia has consistently preferred dialogue over isolation and has not closed doors to potential discussions with any nation.

Regarding ambassadorial appointments, Lavrov expressed optimism that the new U.S. administration would appoint an ambassador to Russia and confirmed that Moscow would support this process. He also addressed the ongoing procedures for appointing a new Russian ambassador to the U.S., following the recent dismissal of former ambassador Anatoly Antonov by President Vladimir Putin. Lavrov assured that an official announcement would be made once the selection is finalized.
