Donald Trump Wins Historic Second Term as 47th President of the United States

Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, marking a historic return to the White House after previously serving as the 45th president from 2016 to 2020. Trump, who now becomes the first U.S. president with a felony conviction, declared victory early Wednesday morning in Florida after surpassing the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency, according to Decision Desk.
Trump won the popular vote by approximately 4.7 million votes over Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. He secured key battleground states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, which ultimately clinched his victory. This win also makes Trump only the second president in U.S. history to serve two non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland.
Throughout his campaign, Trump focused on promises to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, limit transgender participation in college athletics, and end inflation. He also pledged to deport what he called “pro-Hamas radicals” and cut federal funding for schools teaching critical race theory and other progressive content. His running mate, Sen. JD Vance, will serve as vice president when they are both sworn in on January 20, 2025.
