Jordan: King Abdullah appoints Jafar Hassan as the new prime minister

Jordan’s King Abdullah II has designated Jafar Hassan to replace PM Bisher Khasawneh on Sunday, following the legislative elections held on September 10.
Under the Constitution, the government typically resigns after legislative elections, but it is the king who appoints the Prime Minister, not the parliament, which has limited powers.
The Islamic Action Front (IAF) emerged as the leading political party on Wednesday, securing 31 out of 138 seats, including 17 out of 41 reserved for political parties and the remainder allocated to regions.
The Jordanian Parliament is bicameral, which encompasses 138 elected deputies and 69 senators appointed by the king. The assembly can withdraw confidence from the government, approve, and enact laws.
