Argentina: National airline strike affects over 37,000 passengers

BUENOS AIRES – A 24-hour strike by Argentine aviation unions on Friday has led to 319 flight cancellations, affecting 37,000 passengers, according to the state airline Aerolíneas Argentinas.
Aviation unions, including the pilots’ union APLA and the flight attendants’ union AAA, launched the strike in protest against low salaries amid an inflation rate of 236.7% over the past year.
According to Aerolineas Argentinas, the strike primarily affected domestic flight passengers (28,000), in addition to South American flights (5,500), as well as long-haul destinations such as the Caribbean, the United States, and Europe (3,500).
The airline has estimated the cost of the strike at over $2.5 million. Therefore, it has rescheduled several flights outside the 24-hour strike period to mitigate the impact.
This is the second strike in eight days, following a previous one last Friday, which affected about 16,000 passengers, mainly on domestic flights.
