Devastating Floods in Morocco Claim Over 18 Lives

RABAT – Torrential downpours struck North Africa’s typically arid mountains and deserts over the weekend, leading to severe flooding that has resulted in nearly two dozen deaths in Morocco. The intense rainfall caused widespread destruction, impacting homes and critical infrastructure across the affected regions.

Moroccan officials reported that the storms exceeded historic rainfall averages, with some areas receiving more precipitation than the entire annual average. This deluge also struck regions that had suffered a devastating earthquake just a year prior. The extreme weather conditions contributed to significant damage, including the collapse of 56 homes and disruption to essential services such as drinking water and electricity. Nine people remain missing, and among the deceased were tourists from Canada and Peru.
