Paralympic Games: Algerian Judoka Abdelkader Bouamer Clinches Gold

Algerian para-judo athlete Abdelkader Bouamer clinched the gold medal in the (-60 kg – J1) of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, achieving victory with a “Waza-ari” against Iranian opponent Banitaba Khoram Abadi Seyed Meysam in the final held Thursday at the Champs-de-Mars Arena.

Bronze medals were awarded to Venezuelan competitor Blanco Marcos Denis, who won against Indonesia’s Junaedi (10-0), and Indian athlete Kapil Parmar, who triumphed over Brazilian De Oliveira Elielton (10-0).

To reach the finals, Bouamer first defeated Thai competitor Vitoon Kongsuk in the round of 16, followed by a victory over Brazilian De Oliveira Elielton in the quarterfinals, and then overcame Indonesian Junaedi in the semifinals.

Another Algerian para-judo athlete, Ishak Ouldkouider (-60 kg, J2), is set to compete later on Thursday at the Champs-de-Mars Arena, where he aims to secure a bronze medal against Brazilian Thiego Marquez Da Silva.

With this latest gold medal, Algeria has now accumulated a total of eight medals (5 gold, 3 bronze) since the start of the 2024 Paralympic Games. The other gold medals were earned by Athmani Skander Djamil in the 100 meters/T13 and 400 meters/T13 events, Nassima Saïfi in the women’s discus throw (F57), and Safia Djelal in the seated shot put (F57). Additionally, three bronze medals were claimed by Ahmed Mehideb in the club throw (F32), Lynda Hamri in the women’s long jump (T12), and Nassima Saïfi in the seated shot put (F57).
