Tunisia: Court Approves Sixth Candidate for Presidential Election

The Administrative Court in Tunisia announced on Friday that it has approved an appeal, allowing Imed Daïmi to rejoin the presidential race scheduled for October 6. This makes him the sixth candidate in the election.
In a statement reported by TAP, the court indicated that as of Friday, August 30, 2024, all appeals related to the candidacies—totaling six—have been resolved, with decisions being final and not subject to further challenge.
The Administrative Court accepted three appeals, both on procedural and substantive grounds, thereby overturning previous rulings and nullifying the electoral commission’s decisions regarding candidates for the upcoming presidential election.
However, the court rejected two appeals due to procedural issues. In another case, it accepted the appeal on procedural grounds but dismissed it on substantive grounds.
As a result, the list of candidates for the presidential election now includes six individuals: Zouheir Maghzaoui, Kais Saied, Ayachi Zammal, Mondher Zenaidi, Abdellatif Mekki, and Imed Daïmi.
