Zionist Entity Releases Hundreds of Palestinian Prisoners in First Phase of Ceasefire Exchange

The Zionist entity released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners overnight after Hamas handed over the bodies of four Zionist prisoners to the Red Cross, marking the completion of the first phase of a ceasefire deal that began on January 19. The bodies were transferred in southern Gaza before being transported to the Kerem Shalom crossing, while Palestinian detainees arrived in Ramallah and Gaza, many appearing frail and requiring medical attention. Hamas has accused the Zionist Entity of torturing Palestinian prisoners in detention.
Hamas officials confirmed that over 600 Palestinian prisoners were freed as part of this exchange, with most returning to Gaza. The ceasefire agreement, brokered earlier this year, outlined the release of 33 zionist prisoners—including eight bodies—by March 1, in exchange for 1,900 Palestinians held in Zionist jails. However, the Zionist Entity had delayed the release of 620 prisoners last week after Hamas transferred six Zionist detainees, temporarily straining the truce.
In a statement on Thursday, Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire deal and expressed willingness to negotiate the second phase of the agreement. The group insisted that securing the release of remaining Zionist prisoners in Gaza depends on continued negotiations and adherence to the truce. Hamas further stated that the zionist entity has “no choice” but to engage in further talks to fulfill the agreement’s next phase.
