Zelenskyy: US Proposed Expanding Ceasefire to Land in Talks with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Kyiv was prepared for a ceasefire in the air and at sea with Russia, but during Tuesday’s talks in Saudi Arabia, the US suggested extending it to land. In a statement on X, he confirmed that Ukraine welcomed this proposal while emphasizing the need for a reliable mechanism to monitor and enforce the ceasefire. He also expressed appreciation for the US’s willingness to oversee the technical aspects of ceasefire control.
Zelenskyy also credited the discussions for leading to the resumption of US military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine. He highlighted that security guarantees, cooperation with European partners, and further joint measures were key points of the negotiations. His remarks coincided with the arrival of US special envoy Steven Witkoff in Moscow, where he is reportedly set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Responding to the US proposal, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov stated that a final decision would be made by Putin. Moscow has yet to formally comment on the potential ceasefire extension, but any agreement is expected to hinge on Russia’s territorial claims and broader geopolitical considerations.
