Zelenskyy Praises US Sanctions on Russian Oil Giants as Step Toward Peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday welcomed Washington’s latest sanctions on Russia’s leading oil producers, describing them as a “fair and absolutely deserved step” aimed at advancing peace efforts.
“The new US sanctions against Russia’s oil giants are a clear signal that prolonging the war and spreading terror come at a cost,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, expressing gratitude to President Donald Trump and his administration for their “resolute and well-targeted decision.”
Zelenskyy emphasized that sustained pressure on Moscow remains vital for achieving peace, noting that sanctions “are one of the key components of that pressure.” The remarks came a day after the US Treasury Department imposed measures on Rosneft and Lukoil, Russia’s two largest oil companies, accusing Moscow of showing a “lack of serious commitment” to ending the war in Ukraine.
