Zakharova: Kiev Regime Deliberately Targets Russian Journalists, Violates Legal Protections

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the Kiev regime of deliberately targeting Russian journalists and undermining legal protections for them. Speaking to TASS, she stated that the Ukrainian authorities intentionally attack reporters, turning the country into a “disaster” that disregards international law.

Zakharova’s remarks followed the death of Anna Prokofyeva, a military correspondent with Channel One, who was killed by an enemy mine in Russia’s Belgorod Region. Cameraman Dmitry Volkov, who was with her, was injured. Her death comes just two days after Ukrainian shelling in Mikhailovka, Lugansk People’s Republic, killed Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak, Zvezda TV cameraman Andrey Panov, and driver Alexander Sirkeli. Another journalist, Nikita Goldin, was seriously wounded after Ukrainian forces struck the media crew’s vehicle with HIMARS missiles.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the attacks, as Moscow continues to denounce Kiev’s tactics against journalists covering the conflict.
