Local sources in Al Mahwit Governorate reported the death of 32 people at least following a water tank explosion in Malhan District on Tuesday evening. The explosion was attributed to continuous rainfall in the area over several weeks.
Initial reports indicate that the explosion resulted in over 32 casualties, the destruction of 15 homes, eight cars, and four shops, and significant disruption to the area’s infrastructure.
The tank that exploded was located in Al-Qibla district, Malhan directorate. The blast has caused severe damage, which has not yet been fully assessed due to ongoing rain. Sources noted that the tank was situated on a high hill above residential areas, contributing to the scale of the disaster.
Residents have appealed to local and international organizations, as well as relevant authorities, for urgent intervention to rescue affected individuals, recover victims from under the rubble, search for the missing, and provide temporary shelter for those displaced.
