Year 2025, “Exceptional” Opportunity to Foster Algeria-EU Ties

ALGIERS – The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado, praised on Monday in Algiers the “strong, solid, and exceptional” relations between Algeria and the EU, emphasizing that the year 2025 would present “an exceptional opportunity of major importance” to further enhance these ties.
Speaking at a conference organized by the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the EU Delegation to Algeria on “Special Economic Zones as a Tool for Attracting Investment to Algeria,” Mellado highlighted that Algeria “is a strategic partner” of Europe, with which it shares a “strong relationship based on a solid partnership, one that will be further strengthened during the year 2025.”
“It is essential to boost bilateral relations across various fields, develop and facilitate trade between the two parties, attract European investment to Algeria, strengthen technology transfer, integrate our economies, and develop integrated value chains in the best interests of both sides,” stated the EU ambassador.
The EU is convinced of the need to review bilateral relations in their “entirety,” as part of “a new cooperation framework based on the win-win principle, aligned with current challenges and the strategic priorities of both parties,” he added.
Mellado also noted that the EU’s new action plan focuses on the “Pact for the Mediterranean” project, which aims to provide a comprehensive framework for all areas of cooperation with countries in the region, including Algeria. He announced that the project would be presented to the Algerian authorities “in the coming months.”
