Windhoek Pushes Green Mobility with ‘Zero Emissions Week’

Namibia’s capital Windhoek on Monday launched its 2025 “Zero Emissions Week,” a campaign to raise awareness on climate change, sustainable mobility and the benefits of reducing emissions.
The week-long event features exhibitions of electric vehicles, competitions, and a citywide car-free day.
Pierre van Rensburg, head of strategic urban and transport planning, said the initiative was not about following international trends but addressing local challenges such as transport emissions, traffic congestion and urban air quality.
The municipality also inaugurated its first electric vehicle charging station, a step officials say will help normalize e-mobility and expand infrastructure across the city.
Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja hailed the effort as proof of Windhoek’s commitment to climate resilience, sustainable mobility and cutting its carbon footprint.
