Wimbledon: Sinner Reaches Semifinals with Ease Amid Injury Concerns

World number one Jannik Sinner advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals for the second time in his career with a dominant victory over American Ben Shelton, ranked 10th, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Sinner, 23, had skipped training on Tuesday due to a right elbow injury sustained during his match against Grigor Dimitrov. Despite some visible discomfort and wearing a white arm sleeve, Sinner took just two hours and 19 minutes to dispatch Shelton.

He will face either compatriot Flavio Cobolli or seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the next round.

The Italian raised concerns about a possible withdrawal after Monday’s awkward fall, but medical tests and rest allowed him to return to form. He became the first Italian player to reach the Wimbledon semifinals more than once, having also done so in 2023.

Sinner had earlier made history by conceding only 17 games en route to the round of 16, matching a 53-year-old record.

In Wednesday’s quarterfinal, Sinner won the first set in a tiebreak, broke Shelton’s serve late in the second and third sets, and closed both out 6-4, confirming his strong return to Grand Slam contention.
