Western Sahara : Morocco, France Turn Back Colonial Clock

Morocco and France are accused of disregarding UN decolonization resolutions for Western Sahara, effectively reviving 19th-century colonialism, according to critics. Both countries have been condemned for claiming Moroccan ownership of the territory in violation of international law, driven by colonial interests while undermining the authority of the UN Security Council and European judicial institutions.
France, which has consistently supported Morocco’s claim over Western Sahara since 1975, is particularly criticized for its role in perpetuating this colonial agenda.
Despite these efforts, the Sahrawi people remain resolute in their fight to reclaim their homeland, bolstered by recent legal victories. In October, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that trade agreements between Morocco and the EU, involving the occupied Sahrawi territories, are illegal. This decision reinforces the legitimacy of the Sahrawi cause, challenging the colonial ambitions of the Makhzen regime and its international supporters.
