Western Australia Braces for Category 5 Cyclone Zelia, Shuts Ports and Schools

Authorities in Western Australia have taken emergency measures as Tropical Cyclone Zelia, now upgraded to a Category 5 storm, approaches the remote Pilbara region. According to public broadcaster ABC News, schools and ports have been closed, and flights have been canceled ahead of the cyclone’s expected landfall on Friday.
Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has warned of severe winds, heavy rainfall, and potential flooding as Zelia moves closer. Key infrastructure, including the ports of Dampier and Varanus Island, has been shut down as a precaution. Additionally, Port Hedland, the world’s largest iron ore export hub, has ceased operations to ensure safety.
With authorities urging residents to prepare for extreme conditions, emergency services are on high alert to respond to potential damage. The cyclone’s impact is expected to disrupt regional trade and transportation, with further updates to follow as the situation develops.
