West Prioritizes Influence Over Syria’s Unity, Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has criticized the West for its approach to Syria, stating that rather than working to preserve the country’s unity, the West is focused on securing influence, and possibly territory, in the region.

Lavrov emphasized that this is evident in the way Western representatives have resorted to what he described as “habitual diplomatic rudeness,” including demands for Syria to cease its cooperation with Russia.

Lavrov pointed out that the West has even gone as far as threatening to withhold support from Syria unless the country removes Russian military bases. He expressed frustration with the West’s tactics, which he argued are not aimed at stabilizing the situation in Syria, but rather at furthering its own geopolitical interests at the expense of Syrian sovereignty and unity.
