Venezuela-U.S. Diplomatic Talks Begin on Embassy Reopening

The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that Caracas and Washington have begun preliminary talks to evaluate the reopening of their embassies, according to the Venezuelan news agency.

Rodríguez said “despite the military incursion and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, the Venezuelan State’s response will remain on the diplomatic front,” the source said.

“We will face each other in diplomacy, and we will use our Bolivarian diplomacy of peace to defend the peace of Venezuela,” she said.

Rodríguez highlighted the role of the Emir of Qatar as a key mediator in opening communication channels between the two governments in the hours following the attack, the source added.

She noted that the Qatari government is collaborating in the development of a work agenda aimed at benefiting both parties, based on the principle of respect for national sovereignty, the source added.

Rodríguez said the central objective is to guarantee the safe return of President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores to the country, while moving towards political stability and international cooperation.
