Vance Announces Strait of Hormuz Reopened Under Trump-Iran Ceasefire

Speaking at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday, US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a fragile truce with the United States. Vance stated that President Donald Trump had issued a clear ultimatum: “Open up the straits, stop trying to hold the world’s economy hostage, and we’ll engage in a ceasefire.”
The agreement, reached just hours before Trump’s deadline, stipulates that the US and its allies will halt military attacks in exchange for Iran reopening the strategic waterway. Vance asserted that the US has “largely accomplished its military objectives” and predicted that the conflict “will conclude very shortly.” He also remarked that Trump told him, “the Iranians are better negotiators than they are fighters.”
Vance noted that Iran’s foreign minister has responded positively to the US terms, signaling a willingness to maintain the temporary truce and potentially move toward broader negotiations. The development marks a critical moment in the regional crisis, offering a temporary reduction in hostilities while leaving longer-term diplomatic outcomes uncertain.
