Vaccines Donated to Support Nigeria’s Mpox Outbreak Response

The United States donated 10,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine to Nigeria to combat monkeypox. The vaccine, approved by the U.S. FDA, is intended for adults at risk of smallpox and monkeypox.

During the handover in Abuja, Nigeria’s Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate thanked the U.S. and other development partners for their support. He emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to public health and noted the significance of addressing diseases like monkeypox, which is now a public health emergency in Africa.

As of August 23, 2024, Nigeria has reported 40 confirmed monkeypox cases from 830 suspected cases.
