USA: Trump to appoint former ICE director Tom Homan as US ‘border czar’

WASHINGTON – President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Tom Homan, his former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, will serve as “border czar” in his incoming administration.

Homan will be “in charge of our nation’s borders (“The Border Czar”), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

Tom Homan was widely expected to be given a role related to border enforcement, especially with Trump’s pledge to launch the largest deportation operation in U.S. history.

In addition to overseeing the southern and northern borders and “maritime and aviation security,” Trump said, Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”

Trump made combating illegal immigration a cornerstone of his campaign. He frequently praised Homan throughout the campaign, and Homan regularly joined him on the trail to rally supporters.

Thomas Homan had previously served as the head of ICE during Trump’s first term (2017-2021). Under that administration, nearly 4,000 migrant children were separated from their parents and placed in detention.
