US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran Amid Upcoming Nuclear Talks

The United States Department of the Treasury imposed new sanctions on Iran just days after President Donald Trump announced plans for discussions with Tehran over its nuclear program. On Wednesday, the Treasury identified five Iranian entities and one individual, including the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and its subsidiary, Iran Centrifuge Technology Company, as targets due to their alleged support for Iran’s nuclear activities.
The sanctions also targeted Majid Mosallat, head of Atbin Ista Technical and Engineering Company, accusing him of facilitating the procurement of foreign components for Iran’s nuclear efforts. This move comes as the first round of talks between Iran and the U.S. is expected to take place in Oman.
Despite Trump’s proposal to engage in diplomacy to create a new deal, Tehran condemned the sanctions and military threats, calling them contradictory to Trump’s stated willingness to negotiate. The renewed “maximum pressure” campaign and threats of military action continue to fuel tensions as both sides prepare for discussions.
