US Elections: Running mates to meet in vice presidential debate

Republican JD Vance and Democrat Tim Walz will meet Tuesday in the vice presidential debate of the 2024 elections, where they will seize the opportunity to introduce themselves and their approaches to the public.

The debate, hosted by CBS News in New York, may lack the high stakes of the previous matchup between Trump and Harris, but it provides a crucial platform for both candidates to establish their presence and promote their respective tickets.

Walz, the 60-year-old governor of Minnesota, and Vance, a 40-year-old senator from Ohio, have been preparing for their debate for weeks. Walz, before being chosen by Harris, often called the Republican ticket “weird.” In response, Vance criticises Walz’s progressive policies, arguing that they show Democrats as too far-left for most voters.

Both candidates highlight their small-town roots to show they’re different from Trump, a wealthy New Yorker, and Harris, who comes from the Bay Area in California.
