UNRWA Warns of Severe Food Shortages Amid “Desperate Messages of Starvation”

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) raised the alarm Monday over severe food shortages, reporting that it is receiving “desperate messages of starvation” from civilians and even from its own staff on the ground.

“We are receiving desperate messages of starvation from #Gaza, including from our colleagues,” the agency said on X.

Amid this escalating crisis, the agency confirmed that “just outside Gaza, stockpiled in warehouses, UNRWA has enough food for the entire population for over three months.”

“The suffering in Gaza is manmade and must be stopped,” the agency noted, calling for the immediate lifting of the siege as well as the safe and large-scale entry of humanitarian aid.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 18 people have died from starvation over the past 24 hours alone, highlighting a deepening humanitarian catastrophe amid relentless bombardment and widespread deprivation pushing civilians beyond the brink.

A report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) indicated that the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has triggered deadly chaos in the Strip, leaving dozens dead and hundreds injured.

WAFA news agency, citing medical sources in Gaza, reported on Sunday that the number of casualties in the so-called “death traps” of aid distribution sites targeted by the Zionist occupation forces has reached 995 fatalities, 6,011 injuries, and 45 individuals reported missing since May 27.

At least 27 people were killed on Monday as occupation forces continue to pound Gaza a day after killing at least 115 Palestinians, including 79 aid seekers at the Zikim crossing and 13 others at GHF-run sites.
