UNRWA: 650,000 Gaza Children Deprived of Education for Third Year Amid Devastation

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced Thursday that more than 650,000 children in the Gaza Strip remain without access to education for the third consecutive year, underscoring the devastating human toll of the Zionist entity’s continued aggression.
“In Gaza, children are out of school for a third year in a row,” the agency wrote on X. “For nearly 660,000 girls and boys, returning to learning is not only about education, it’s about starting to heal from deep trauma.” UNRWA stressed that it stands ready to assist, describing education as a critical part of psychological recovery for Gaza’s children. Tamara Alrifai, UNRWA’s Director of External Relations, reaffirmed that restoring education remains one of the agency’s top priorities.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 97% of Gaza’s school buildings have been destroyed or severely damaged, leaving the territory’s education system in ruins. Since October 2023, Zionist attacks have killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—and made Gaza virtually uninhabitable. Although a ceasefire was recently reached under a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, which includes prisoner exchanges, the immense destruction and trauma endured by Gaza’s population continue to define daily life for its children.
