United States: Five Injured in Explosion at Texas Bus Station

Five people were injured on Tuesday following an explosion at a bus station in El Paso, Texas, as reported by the El Paso Fire Department. One individual suffered serious injuries, according to the El Paso Times.

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM local time (8:00 PM GMT) in the maintenance garage of the Sun Metro Transit Operations Center, located approximately 3.5 miles from El Paso International Airport. The explosion caused extensive damage to the building, resulting in the collapse of its roof and walls, stated El Paso Deputy Fire Chief Robert Arvizu, who also confirmed that no firefighters were injured in the incident.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene, Arvizu reported. A large plume of black smoke was visible from several miles away, as evidenced by photos and videos shared on social media.

According to the El Paso Times, road closures surrounding the explosion site are expected to last for several hours. Authorities have confirmed that operations at El Paso International Airport were not affected. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
