United States: California Courthouse Targeted by Homemade Bomb

A California courthouse was temporarily closed on Wednesday following the detonation of a homemade bomb, as reported by local police. Authorities confirmed that a suspect was apprehended at the scene.

Two individuals sustained injuries; however, their conditions are not life-threatening, according to officials in Santa Maria, a city located near Santa Barbara and northwest of Los Angeles.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media: “Santa Maria Courthouse: report of an explosion. Please avoid the area. The location is deemed unsafe.”

They further noted that a suspect “was taken into custody immediately,” indicating that “the explosion resulted from an intentionally set improvised explosive device.”

Witnesses told local media that a man arrived at the courthouse around 8:30 a.m., shouting and dropping an object that began emitting smoke, causing panic among bystanders.
