UNICEF Secures Mpox Vaccine Access for 77 Countries

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced on Thursday that it has signed an agreement to provide access to an anti-mpox vaccine at the lowest market price, ensuring its availability for 77 low- and middle-income countries.
This agreement arises from an emergency tender launched by UNICEF on August 29, following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) prequalification of the MVA-BN mpox vaccine on September 13.
Under this agreement, UNICEF has negotiated a price of up to $65 per vaccine dose, representing the most competitive rate available. The deal guarantees access to the vaccine for 77 low- and middle-income countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and other nations significantly impacted by the crisis.
In addition to the emergency tender, UNICEF is assessing further proposals to secure a long-term, diverse, and reliable supply of anti-mpox vaccines from multiple manufacturers, all while adhering to principles of price transparency.
