UN Warns of Major Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon Amid Ongoing Zionist Strikes

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, warned of a profound humanitarian crisis in the country following a military escalation that has dashed hopes for a ceasefire, stressing the need for de-escalation and prioritizing dialogue to halt further suffering.

In a video briefing from Beirut, Riza told U.N. correspondents: “We woke up today to news of the ceasefire and there was uncertainty, the big question was, how does it apply on Lebanon? Will it apply on Lebanon? And of course, there were many voices from this side saying that they were hoping for Lebanon’s inclusion.” He emphasized that the developments on the ground quickly took a different turn, adding that “the sounds over the last three hours that have been dominating all of Beirut are our ambulances going around.” Riza said that an early morning strike on a café along the Saida Corniche killed eight people, adding that more than twelve airstrikes were reported the previous day before the broader escalation.

The Lebanese Health Ministry announced Wednesday that 182 people were killed and 890 others wounded following a large wave of airstrikes carried out by the occupation.

Since the beginning of the Zionist aggression on Lebanon on 2 March, 1,739 people have been killed and 5,873 others wounded.
