UN Warns of Deteriorating Humanitarian Crisis in Myanmar Amid Ongoing Conflict

The humanitarian crisis in Myanmar has worsened as civilian casualties continue to rise due to ongoing conflict, which has affected 12 of the country’s 15 states and regions. As a result, 3.4 million people are now internally displaced, according to United Nations figures.
Humanitarian organizations have managed to assist nearly 3 million people in the first three quarters of 2024, but severe underfunding has limited their ability to provide more aid. The 2024 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, which requires nearly $1 billion, is currently only one-third funded, receiving just $334 million. The UN has called on member states to urgently contribute additional funds.
The UN also urges all parties involved in the conflict to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian aid and to remove bureaucratic barriers to effectively reach those in need.
