UN Security Council to Vote Thursday on New Gaza Resolution

The UN Security Council is set to vote once again on Thursday on a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip, devastated by a Zionist genocide for nearly two years.

The Council’s ten elected members began discussions on this draft resolution in late August, following the UN’s official declaration of famine in the Palestinian enclave. Since March 2, the Zionist entity has imposed a suffocating blockade after closing all border crossings, preventing the entry of food and medical aid.

The draft to be put to vote Thursday afternoon demands an end to restrictions on humanitarian assistance, while also calling for “an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza” and addressing the issue of hostages. The United States has already blocked similar draft resolutions, most recently in June, when it exercised its veto power.
