UN Security Council Expresses Grave Concern Over Deteriorating Crisis in Haiti

The UN Security Council has reiterated its “deep concern” over the ongoing and worsening crisis in Haiti, which includes political instability, economic difficulties, security threats, human rights violations, and severe food insecurity. The crisis is compounded by restrictions on humanitarian access, hindering aid delivery to those in need.

In a statement on Monday, Council members condemned the escalating violence and criminal activities carried out by gangs, calling for an end to the violence, which has led to worsening humanitarian conditions. They stressed the importance of ensuring safe, unhindered humanitarian access.

The Council also urged the international community to intensify efforts to support Haiti’s National Police, particularly through the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), to restore public order. They welcomed the deployment of the MSS and urged faster deployment and additional voluntary contributions to support the mission.

The members reiterated their condemnation of increased violence, criminal activities, and human rights violations, which threaten the peace and stability of Haiti and the region. They called for the creation of a secure environment to enable an inclusive political process and free and fair elections in Haiti, emphasizing the urgent need for political transition progress.
