UN Highlights Dire Humanitarian Situation in Gaza Amid Ceasefire Agreement

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that more than two million people in Gaza remain dependent on the delivery of essential supplies, following over 15 months of continuous aggression.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq, citing OCHA data during a press conference, revealed that humanitarian workers have intensified efforts to distribute critical resources such as food, shelter, clean water, and other basic necessities. Haq emphasized, “The entire population of Gaza, over two million people, relies on these necessities.”
Children, constituting nearly half of Gaza’s population, are among the most vulnerable. Many are surviving on just one meal per day, highlighting the urgent need for expanded humanitarian support.
Haq also shared details of a 60-day initiative developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to address healthcare challenges in the region. The plan includes increasing hospital bed capacity in northern and southern Gaza and deploying foreign healthcare professionals to support overstretched local medical teams.
This announcement comes as a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange deal between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the Zionist entity took effect on Sunday. The ceasefire follows a brutal military campaign launched by the occupying army against Gaza on October 7, 2023.
The humanitarian community continues to respond to the crisis, striving to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s population amid the ongoing recovery from widespread destruction and displacement.
