UN Expresses Concern over Ongoing Civilian Suffering in Sudan

The United Nations expressed deep concern over the ongoing suffering of civilians amid escalating violence in Darfur and Kordofan in Sudan. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reiterated the call to protect civilians and ensure unhindered humanitarian access to all affected areas.

Dujarric stressed that regular delivery of humanitarian aid is essential to provide life-saving assistance and prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan expressed concern over reports of drone attacks on the city of Dalang in southern Sudan, which resulted in civilian casualties. The office warned that the violence exacerbates an already deteriorating humanitarian situation for civilians trapped in the city.

Sudanese Doctors’ Network had previously warned of an imminent health and humanitarian disaster in Dalang, as Rapid Support Forces continued to besiege and heavily bombard the city. Since the early months of the conflict, Dalang and Kadugli in South Kordofan have suffered repeated attacks by artillery and drones.

The three states of the Kordofan region (North, West, and South) have witnessed violent clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in recent weeks, leading to the displacement of tens of thousands of Sudanese. Since April 2023, armed conflict between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.
