UN Envoy: Gaza Children Facing Unthinkable Suffering, World Must Not Stay Silent

NEW YORK — The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, delivered a stark warning before the Security Council, urging immediate global action to end the catastrophic impact of armed conflicts on children—particularly in Gaza, where she said the level of devastation “defies every human standard.”

“There is no justification for depriving children of access to food, healthcare, and security,” Gamba stated, presenting the Secretary-General’s annual report on children in conflict zones. She called on Zionist entity, as the occupying power, to allow the rapid and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

The report, covering 25 conflict-affected countries, identified the Occupied Palestinian Territory—especially Gaza—as the top violators of children’s rights in 2024, alongside the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Nigeria, and Haiti. Gamba stressed that the international community must no longer remain passive as children continue to suffer atrocities with impunity
