UN Condemns Deadly Pager Explosions in Lebanon, Calling them “Concerning Escalation”

The United Nations has condemned the deadly pager explosions in Lebanon, describing them as a “concerning escalation.” The attacks, which killed nine people and injured 2,800, have heightened tensions in an already fragile region. UN special coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, expressed alarm over the situation, emphasizing the gravity of the attacks nearly one year into the Gaza war.
Hennis-Plasschaert called the explosions “an extremely concerning escalation in an already unacceptably volatile context.” She urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid further actions or rhetoric that could lead to a broader conflict. The UN’s message reflected growing concerns about the potential for violence to spill over into the broader Middle East.
