UN : Amar Bendjama calls for urgent humanitarian aid for Sudan as famine exacerbates

NEW YORK (United Nations) – Algeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, spoke before the Security Council on Tuesday, as “a catastrophic humanitarian situation” is hitting Sudan.
According to reports from the Famine Review Committee of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, the camps of internally displaced people are facing an “acute food insecurity,” spreading thus famine (IPC 5) in displacement camps, including Zamzam, Abu Shouk, and Al-Salam.
Mr. Bendjama urged the Council to act urgently as 20 million Sudanese are in desperate need of humanitarian aid.
