UN: Algeria Elected Vice-Chair of Preparatory Committee for Conference on Crimes Against Humanity

Algeria has been elected by acclamation as Vice-Chair of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the United Nations Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity, representing the African Group.
The election, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, serves as a recognition of Algeria’s active role and prominent standing on the international stage.
It highlights the nation’s commitment to promoting international justice, upholding international law, defending human rights, and supporting just causes globally.
The Committee is tasked with preparing for the United Nations Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity, scheduled for 2028-2029.
The ultimate objective is to draft a comprehensive international convention to prevent and punish crimes against humanity, including colonialism, slavery, apartheid, forced displacement, and other grave transgressions that undermine human dignity.
