The Russian oil tanker Matilda, flying the flag of Malta, was reportedly attacked by two Ukrainian attack drones approximately 62 miles from the city of Anapa in Russia’s Krasnodar region, the Russian Defense Ministry announced.
According to a ministry statement, a distress signal from the Matilda was received on January 13 through the international maritime security channel while the vessel was in the Black Sea. The incident underscores ongoing maritime tensions in the region amid the broader Russia-Ukraine conflict.
