Ukrainian Prime Minister : Over Half of State Budget Spent on Defense in 2024

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Tuesday that more than half of Ukraine’s state budget for the past year was allocated to defense efforts. During a government meeting, Shmyhal revealed that every hryvnia collected within the country was directed toward strengthening Ukraine’s defense sector.

Shmyhal emphasized that both state and private investments have significantly enhanced Ukraine’s defense capabilities, with the defense industry expanding six-fold. Over 800 state and private companies are currently operating within the country’s defense sector, producing over 1,000 types of weapons and equipment. Notably, half of these items are domestically manufactured.

The prime minister highlighted that domestic production plays a crucial role in Ukraine’s defense, particularly in the drone sector, where over 96% of output is locally produced. Through the Army of Drones initiative, Ukraine has procured more than 1.2 million drones. Regarding financial stability, Shmyhal assured that priority expenditures are fully funded, with $41.7 billion in international aid received from Kyiv’s global partners.
