Ukrainian-American Negotiations on Partial Ceasefire Begin in Saudi Arabia

Ukrainian-American negotiations aimed at securing a partial ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow commenced on Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to media sources.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the news on Telegram, publishing a short video showing Ukrainian officials entering the negotiation room. This meeting marks the first high-level interaction between Ukrainian and American officials since the controversial visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House in late February, which led to a public confrontation with former President Donald Trump and his vice president.
Ukraine is expected to present a plan for a partial ceasefire with Russia during this meeting, which follows a recent attack involving hundreds of drones targeting Moscow.
The discussions come after a significant shift in relations between the United States and Ukraine. Following Zelensky’s visit to Washington, where tensions flared with Trump’s administration, the U.S. suspended its military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv. The relationship between the two countries has since cooled, particularly with the return of Donald Trump to the White House in January.
Despite the previous harsh rhetoric, with Trump accusing Zelensky of being a “dictator” and ungrateful toward Washington, the tone between the U.S. and Ukraine appears to have softened. Trump, who has been pursuing closer ties with Russia, expressed confidence that Zelensky is now willing to negotiate and even threatened further sanctions on Moscow.
