UK : FM Lammy attends EU foreign affairs talks for first time in 2 years

LUXEMBOURG – British Foreign Minister David Lammy attended the European Union foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, emphasising the UK and Europe’s “indivisible” security, according to Reuters.
FM Lammy said his decision to take part in the meeting marked another important step in Britain’s endeavours to “reset” relations with the EU following Brexit.
“A historic moment that marks our EU reset,” said Lammy as he arrived at the meeting in Luxembourg.
Since taking office in July, PM Keir Starmer has made rebuilding trust between London and its European allies a key priority of his foreign policy. He has visited Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, and Brussels as part of this effort.
Brexit refers to the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union following a 2016 referendum in which a majority voted to exit. The process officially began in 2017 and was finalised with the UK’s departure on January 31, 2020, after a series of negotiations.
Brexit has had significant political, economic, and social consequences, including changes to trade relations, immigration, and the status of Northern Ireland.
