Uganda’s Electoral Commission Approves Museveni’s Candidacy for 2026 Presidential Elections

Uganda’s Electoral Commission has approved the candidacy of President Yoweri Museveni for the presidential elections scheduled to take place in early 2026.
Museveni, 81, said during a press conference that his new five-year mandate would allow him to strengthen security, improve infrastructure, and expand access to healthcare and education.
According to the African news outlet 360 Afrique, Museveni’s main challenger in the upcoming elections is expected to be Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine, a 43-year-old singer turned politician. The Electoral Commission is set to review Bobi Wine’s candidacy later today, Wednesday.
