U.S. to Announce New Tariffs in Response to Foreign Trade Barriers

The United States administration is set to announce new customs duties on foreign goods as a direct response to tariffs and other trade barriers imposed by various countries, including some long-standing American allies. While the White House has not yet revealed the specific tariffs or their calculation methods, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to personally announce the details of these new restrictions.

According to Bloomberg, these duties will target non-tariff trade barriers and will be applied selectively. The administration plans to impose retaliatory tariffs broadly on countries and trade blocs, though potential exemptions may apply to nations that have not levied tariffs on U.S. goods and maintain a trade surplus with the U.S.

The new duties are expected to mirror the rates imposed by other nations while also factoring in foreign subsidies. Sources suggest that the U.S. is considering a three-tiered duty system, categorizing countries based on the perceived severity of their trade barriers.

While the additional tariffs aim to address trade imbalances, they risk further straining relations with U.S. allies and triggering retaliatory actions, potentially escalating existing trade tensions globally.
