U.S. Blacklists Over 50 Chinese Tech Firms to Curb AI and Quantum Advancements

The U.S. government has placed more than 50 Chinese technology companies on its export blacklist in its first such action under the Donald Trump administration, intensifying efforts to limit Beijing’s progress in artificial intelligence and advanced computing.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security added 80 entities to its “entity list,” with the majority being Chinese firms. This move prevents American companies from supplying these organizations without government approval. The targeted firms were accused of aiding China’s military modernization, developing AI and supercomputing technologies, and supporting sanctioned entities like Huawei. Six subsidiaries of Inspur Group, previously blacklisted under the Biden administration, were also included.

China’s foreign ministry strongly condemned the decision, calling it an overreach of national security concerns. Experts suggest the move signals a broader U.S. strategy to curb China’s technological rise. Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook’s recent visit to Hangzhou, China’s AI hub, and his praise for local AI firm DeepSeek have drawn attention amid rising U.S.-China tech tensions.
