Two Sailors Missing After Russian Cargo Ship Sinks in Mediterranean Explosion

Two sailors are missing after a Russian cargo ship sank in the Mediterranean Sea following an explosion, according to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ crisis unit on Tuesday.

The incident involved the cargo ship “Ursa Major,” which was carrying 16 crew members, all Russian nationals. The vessel sank after an explosion occurred in its engine room. Fourteen crew members were rescued and taken to the Spanish port of Cartagena, while two remain missing.

The ship, operated by the Russian defense ministry’s “Oboronlogistika” company, was en route to Vladivostok in the far east of Russia, transporting port cranes and spare parts for icebreakers.
